FCS STEAM Classes

Education is what we can truly excel at. There are plenty of other organizations in the city that recycle and refurbish electronics. Helping people to understand and play with enabling technologies, whether how to repair a computer, write an app, or chat privately with their friends and family, is something that no one else in the city can do at the level we can.

To this end, we are currently partnering with the FCS to teach a class each Friday From Feb 28 to March 21 2014 from 1630 - 1800, 3 to 4 volunteers are needed to assist the class in this way:

"Volunteers hover to answer questions and facilitate good teamwork based engagement with the materials. Ensuring safety in the classroom while maintaining a positive attitude on the task at hand is a major focus." -Jon Madamba

Volunteers will need to be vetted by Tim or Jon in order to participate, as this opportunity involves working with children.

FCS Workshops

Getting donated hardware into working order, setting up donated hardware with free, open and community-developed software (currently Xubuntu Linux, considering Linux Mint XFCE), and teaching people about both of these things along the way.

We're currently seeking more PC donations. We have our workshop set up and ready to go with all the tools we need for the time being.

This is a regular event, every Saturday from 1500 - ~1900, at least one volunteer is needed to lead the volunteer sessions. Tasks to include conducting orientation, Safety Class and other classes, ensuring safety and best practices in Build, and other leadership as indicated.

Schedule is on our main page for sign-up.
