Weekly FCS Workshops

These weekly events start with orientation for new volunteers. If there are any new donations, we begin the Evaluation process on them (including wiping HDDs). The person who organizes the event that week may program other activities, like a presentation, a class, or a project.
Here are some of the activities that often occur at our workshops...
- Replacing a defective hard drive and installing a new (Free) operating system, typically Linux
- Checking/modifying BIOS settings to see why a system won't boot up
- Wiping hard drives for re-use, and testing hard drives to make sure they're healthy
- Disassembly of systems for recycling
- Hacking on software to improve operational aspects, website
- Tracking systems in & out and volunteer time
- Research technical specifications on a particular motherboard, hard drive and so on.

Monthly Meetups
When
Monthly meetings occur on the 2nd monday of each month, unless there is reason to postpone or cancel (example: conflicts with pre-existing events at Third Place meeting-room/). Cancellations will be posted to the freegeek-seattle mailing list.

Everyone is welcome. We'll be meeting at Third Place Commons in Lake Forest Park. We'll put two or more tables together by the electrical outlets in the main open area. Wifi is provided by King County Library System. We'll meet from 18:30 till 21:00, or later (6:30pm till 9pm in American time).

Free Classes
Free Geek Seattle conducts occasional free classes on technical topics. The classes occur about once a month. The next class is at 10 AM, Saturday, December 21st at Filipino Community Center. The topic is Making Web pages with HTML, CSS and Javascript. All are welcome, this is a beginner's class.
Board Meeting
When
The board meetings are held quarterly in January, April, July and October. Board meetings are part of the general meeting for that month.
