Hardware Donations

Please read this entire page to understand the options and terms for computer donations made to us.

NOTE: donations will be soon be (in part) tax deductible, due to our 501c3 status. Contact board@freegeekseattle.org for details, if needed.

We currently have 2 ways to accept donate/recycle computers and gear...

Option 1) Destination:

Visit http://donatemycomputer.eventbrite.com/ to schedule a drop-off.

Drop-off Appointment times are from Tues-Sat 10AM-6PM. You must schedule a specific day then can come in during those posted hours, except for holidays. Please use the link above to register BEFORE bringing any donations so that we have an accurate record of drop-offs.

Take your EventBrite registration ticket and gear to the Front desk at the Filipino Community Center (FCC), . Please be sure to say the equipment is for the "Technology lab in care of Free Geek Seattle", they will complete the form to mark it received into inventory. Keep a copy of the ticket for your Federal tax return records, if desired.

Option 2) you may bring it to one of our monthly workshops which are held on the 2nd monday of each month in Seattle. At this time we are only able to take small lots (1-5 systems and parts) due to lack of transport, so if you have more than that please use option 1.

What we accept

Items in bold are in special need at this time.

• Desktop computers
• Laptops & Notebooks
• Monitors LCD & CRT - working only, please!
  • Any size is fine for LCD. For CRT, smaller is preferred.
• Peripherals: Audio cards, USB storage, SD cards
• Networking gear: Wire(less) routers, switches, NIC cards, etc.
• Media - DVD-ROMs, CD-R, Blu-Ray, etc
• Hard drives - All types
• Memory (RAM)
• mice, trackballs, keyboards, especially USB type
• power cables, power strips, extension cords
• various computer cables... USB, Serial, Parallel, SCSI
• interface adapters e.g. USB-to-Serial

Other

This includes types of equipment we currently have a non-recurring need for

• 1 or 2 Shelves (sturdy)
• Gorilla tape
• Flashlights
• Various plastic containers used for recycling raw materials:
  • 10 small (up to 1ft^3)
  • 6 med(1-5ft^3)
  • 3 large(6-10.

Lab gear

• LCD Projector in working condition, to hold labs and training sessions
• Video recorder to record sessions for future educational purposes

Safety Items (workshop safety is important)

• Gloves - youth sized (we have plenty of adult sized)
• Goggles - ditto
• First aid kit

Consider that many of these items could be merely loaned to us instead of given over outright. Please do label your loaned items, indicating ownership, by using a label maker, sharpie, or dremel tool We cannot guarantee against items being stolen or lost however.
