Free Geek Seattle is a volunteer non-profit organization focused on sustainable computing. Founded in 2009, we model ourselves after the original Free Geek in Portland Oregon.

Here is what we do, in a nutshell...

  • Refurbish computers to distribute back into the community.
  • Recycle unusable computer gear in an environmentally responsible manner.
  • Training & support in recycling, refurbishing and how to use computers and the Internet.

Free Geek Seattle thrives because of the work of all our volunteers.

Interested in helping? To get started, please follow these 3 simple steps:

1. Join the mailing list

Send an email to freegeek-seattle+subscribe@googlegroups.com to sign up. Most of our discussions and planning take place on the list, so this is the #1 way to get apprised and involved with us.

2. Introduce yourself!

Send us an e-mail to introduce yourself to the group. Please include the following information:

  • Name and contact information
  • How did you hear of us?
  • What are the areas of your interest or expertise?
  • What is your availability (hours per week & when)?
  • Have you worked for any other similar agency e.g. Free Geek Portland / Interconnection or RElectronics and what was that like?
For extra-credit, complete our volunteer survey form which provides us more focused information, so we can match up opportunities with your interests and skills.

3. Attend a workshop
We have our workshops monthly on the 2nd monday evening from 6:30 - 9pm. This is where you can meet other volunteers and organizers in person, get your hands a little dirty and find out more how we operate. We meet at Jigsaw Renaissance in Seattle. (Directions)

Thank you for your support!
